World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I am 26 years old and I hold a Bachelor of Laws and have been admitted to the bar. I hold a Certificate in Business Management and I have my real estate licence. I have spent a year in immigration legal consulting and two and a half years working in government. I worked for the Office of the Ombudsman and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
I specialised in information legislation which includes the Official Information Act 1982 and the Privacy Act 1993. I work as a real estate salesperson which I am passionate about. I love property and the legislation and I want to work as hard as I possibly can for my clients. I love pageants and I have been competing in them for two years. I have extensive modelling experience and I modelled most notably for Shoe Connection which is a brand in New Zealand. I love helping others and doing charity work. In 2017 I ran a marathon for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand and I raised over $1200! I have also run two half marathons. I love the gym particularly body pump and keeping fit.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.
I began pageants with being a semi finalist and then a finalist in Miss Bikini New Zealand 2016. I entered Miss Universe New Zealand semi finals in 2017 and I was selected as a finalist and I made the top ten. Then at Miss Supermodel New Zealand 2017/2018 I won the best in swimwear. I also won the Miss Model of the World New Zealand 2017 title and I went and competed in China and gained overseas experience and new friends. I had the honour of being selected to represent New Zealand in Miss Supertalent of the World 2018 Season Ten! I won a special award at Miss Supertalent of the World 2018 Season Ten of ‘Miss Humanitarian.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?
I believed a pageant would improve my confidence in myself which it did. The ability to speak in front of an audience is a great skill to gain and I gained body confidence. I was inspired by beauty queens like Olivia Culpo.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
I wanted to represent my beautiful country overseas and I was really interested in the modelling and fashion side of Supertalent.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
Our pageant system for Miss Supertalent of the World 2018 was done on selection of the right candidate for the country by the National Director. They selected the candidate that they believed would do the best on the international stage.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?
We were judged on the swimwear section, evening gown section, national costume section and an angel section.
World Class Beauty Queens: How was your experience during the competition.
It was incredible and I made so many amazing friends like Miss Sweden who we got along very well. It is great to make so many friends overseas because then when you travel overseas you have wonderful people to meet up with all around the world! I loved the South Korean food and the people were so friendly. The South Korea chicken and pizza was beautiful! The competition was so much fun and I gained runaway skills and improved my walk and confidence.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.
My platform is one where I will raise awareness for talent, fashion and modelling.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of you achievements?
As noted above I have ran a marathon and two half marathons. I have a Bachelor of Laws and I have been admitted to the bar. I have finished my real estate licence course and hold a certificate in business management. I now hold two New Zealand pageant titles.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your onstage strategy to win the judges over?
Being myself was my strategy because I wanted to represent my country and myself as honestly as I possibly could.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?
I am very lively and upbeat and I have high positive energy and I think this made me stand out. I am an extrovert and I believe this got me noticed.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did it feel to hear your name as the winner?
It felt amazing! I felt very special to be informed I had won a special award.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
It means the world to be a Beauty Queen but it comes with responsibility which includes putting out positive messages such as treating others as you would want to treat them. I believe to be a Beauty Queen means to be kind to everyone no matter what path of life they are from and to help with charity work and look after people and inspire them.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
It helped me find my career as a real estate salesperson which is awesome because I engage in doing what I love. Pageants have given me confidence and enabled me to believe in myself more than I did prior to competing in them.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?
It feels amazing to inspire others and show them that if I can do a pageant then so can they.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
My advice is to practice and go on youtube and search the best pageant women and learn from their style of walking. Practicing as much as you can makes all the difference! After all, practice makes perfect.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
My tips are to see what style of gowns suit your body first and then go online and watch old pageants to get inspired for what sort of gown you would like and what color. Doing your research and homework is key to find the perfect pageant dress.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?
My tips are to do your homework and watch what past winners of the pageant you are competing in said in the year before pageant. Watching winners of pageants and how they interview is also very important. The more prepared you are the less nervous you will be and the better you will do.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you’ve done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?
My zip on one of my dresses had broken before I left for Miss Model of the World 2017 and it made it much harder to walk in (I had to use safety pins). I wish I could redo this and go back in time and have fixed the dress before I left.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine would like to say thank you to Kate Langston Miss Supertalent of the World New Zealand 2018, Season 10 for this wonderful interview.
